So who the heck are you?
When I am not officiating weddings, I have lots of fun hobbies; mostly though, I’m probably bouldering. You know that sport where people wear shoes too tight and hang from their fingers in a multicoloured warehouse? Yeah. That. I do that a lot. I’m also a lover of sport, Dungeons and Dragons, reading, writing, cooking, swimming, annoying my cat, annoying my partner, and annoying my friends!
I’m Stan! I am a Civil Marriage Celebrant operating out of Victoria and South Australia. I’m 29 years old, a total nerd, and I love rock climbing…
Okay, well how’d the celebrant thing start?
I got my license in 2021 after going to a mate’s wedding, their officiant was TERRIBLE! She turned up 10 minutes before the ceremony, read from her chonky folder, pronounced the groom’s name incorrectly, then jumped in her Suzuki Swift and got out of there… I couldn’t believe it when the couple told me how much they had paid for her and that she was the only one available. I applied to get my licence the very next day.
Your celebrant doesn’t need to be your best friend. I am not going to pretend I’ve known you for a decade, but I’m certainly going to make an effort to get to know you, and I am DEFINITELY pronouncing your names right.
What makes you different?
Secondly, I love to teach and I love to learn. As a celebrant I will walk you through every single aspect of your wedding. From the paperwork, to the aisle, the vows and ‘I do’s’. Any fun idea you want to explore, I’m all ears, but I’m also full of facts, advice and experience. I’ll make you feel heard, but also expressed.
Finally, and I guess this isn’t different, but to be a good celebrant, you have to love it. You have to love LOVE. And I bloody do. Truly, this work is so important to me and I take it extremely seriously. Know that I will work my ass off for you, that I’ll answer every text, be at every meeting 10 minutes early and fight to make your ceremony everything you’ve dreamed.
A few things, I hope. First of all, I’ve got a lot of experience as a performer, I studied Acting back in the day, performed on stage and screen for nearly 2 decades before moving into the wedding space. It’s different, of course, being a celebrant is more honest, real. But I know how to work a crowd, I know how to listen and I know how to make people breathe.
